Reimbursement Obligations

The Trustees of the Transit Employees’ Health and Benefit Trust administer the plans listed below (the "Plans"):

  • UNIFOR Short Term Disability Plan
  • UNIFOR Long Term Disability Plan
  • CUPE/Exempt Income Continuance Plan

Generally, benefits are payable from the Plans if an employee loses earnings due to a disability. If your disability is caused by another person, you will have to sign and comply with a Reimbursement Agreement. Under the Reimbursement Agreement, if you recover any money from the third party that caused your disability, you must pay an amount back to the Plans. This helps ensure that the right party pays for your loss of earnings and that nobody is paid twice for lost earnings.

For more information, please read the Summary of Reimbursement Obligations linked below. It provides a summary of the Reimbursement Agreement and describes what you have to do if your disability is caused by a third party.
